In the Belgian and Dutch databases of family names from the end of the 20th century, neither the names Van Roecke nor Van Roeke can be found.
Still we sometimes find these family names.
The spelling "oe" was often used to indicate a long [o:]-sound, exactly as the notation "ae" was used for the [a:]-sound, en the "ue" for [y:], for example in the names Verstraeten and Verschueren.
There is a high probability that people who have the name Van Roe(c)ke are related to the Van Roocke family.
In the genealogy of Teunis van Doesburg we find mr Teun Bakkenes, born in 1942 in Lunteren in Holland, deceased in 1969, who was married to Annie Van Roeke.
The VUBpress (Flemish University of Brussels) published the book "Veertig jaar sport- en vrijetijdsbeleid in Vlaanderen" -40 years of sports and recreation in Flanders- redacted by Paul De Knop.
The sixth chapter of this book, "De ontwikkeling van de opleiding lichamelijke opvoeding en de specialisatie sportmanagement aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel" -the evolution of the schooling in physical education and the specialisation of sportsmanagement at the Flemish University of Brussels- was written by Paul Wylleman and Jo Van Roecke.
Jo Van Roecke cooperated with Paul Wylleman, Paul De Knop, Marc Theeboom, Kristine De Martelaer and Lies van Reddegem in the nineth chapter of this book, about the policy in sports for youth in Flanders.
